Limpopo, the eco-tourism destination for families, shares its borders with Botswana, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. It is also called the Great North, with its broad and contrasting landscape, which reveals immense scenic beauty. The area offers families abundance in variety of natural attractions, providing opportunities to experience nature at its best in Africa.
Majority of the safari, game-viewing for families takes place in the eastern area of Limpopo, where you can encounter the ‘Big Five’ animals and is the less crowded part of the Kruger National Park. The Olifants ‘Elephants’ River also passes through this area, providing many water activities through indigenous forest
Just 15 kilometres outside Thabazimbi, you will find the Marakele National Park, home to one of the largest Cape Vulture colonies. There are over 800 breeding pairs in the Park.
Marakele was developed as an alternative ‘Big Five’destination to the Kruger National Park, with buffalo, giraffe, zebra, tsessebe, eland, hartebeest, roan, sable, hippo, white and black rhino and elephant being introduced.
Limpopo is also known for the Bela-Bela hot springs, where children will delight in the warmth of the water. We highly recommend the Warmbaths Forever Resort which is located adjacent to its own private game reserve. The hot mineral springs here rise out of the ground at an astonishing 22 000 litres per hour. Visitors can relax in the healing, mineral rich waters and enjoy temperatures of around 53 degrees Celsius (127 degrees Fahrenheit).
