South Africa’s northeastern corner, with its dramatic mountain wall of great beauty and soft edges in the east and its densely covered lowveld in the west. MPUMALANGA – ‘The place where the sun rises’ is considered to be one of the most geographically diverse and unbelievably beautiful places in South Africa.
In the Eastern Escarpement you will find one of Africa’s scenic gems, the dramatic Blyde River Canyon, a ruged gorge some 800 metres below the Escarpment’s crest. Another highlight in the area is God’s Window, a gap in the Escarpment that gives visitors unforgettable views across the sweep of the lowveld.
It is also in this area where you can visit historic and romantic towns, such as Pilgrims Rest, which arose in the gold rush era of the 1870′s and is today a living museum.
Mpumalanga is Big Game Country, the setting for dozens of sanctuaries teeming with wildlife and birds, where your family can visit the world’s most famous game reserve, Kruger National Park.
While you are here exploring everything and are feeling adventurous, don’t forget to climb the world’s third-highest canyon and explore the world’s oldest cave at Sudwala Caves. There is something for everyone in Mpumalanga!
