Arrive at Munich Airport, where you will be transferred to the ship docked in Passau.
{tab Day 2}
Passau
Your walking discovery tour of the medieval town of Passau features many of Old Town’s architectural gems, as well as an extra special holiday treat—an opportunity to learn how to make gingerbread & elegant floral centerpieces. In the evening, enjoy a Captain’s Welcome Reception & a festive Christmas Eve dinner on-board. Later, you are welcome to head back ashore to attend Midnight Mass at St. Stephan’s Cathedral.
{tab Day 3}
Linz (Salzburg & Oberndorf)
Spend Christmas Day in two Austrian towns famous for music. Salzburg—the birthplace of Mozart—was also the location for several scenes in the classic film The Sound of Music. See the famous gardens where Maria & the children sang “Do-Re-Mi,” and enjoy a festive holiday lunch inside St. Peter’s Abbey. Then head to Oberndorf, where the beloved Christmas carol “Silent Night” was performed for the first time.
{tab Day 4}
Grein
Explore charming Grein, with its 15th-century castle & delightful little jewel-box theatre built in 1791, which retains all of its original features—including a box for Napoleon. Later, you’ll be treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience—a private cocktail reception at a 13th-century castle, hosted by an Austrian princess descended from the royal Habsburgs.
{tab Day 5}
Melk, cruising the Wachau Valley, Dürnstein
Melk Abbey was a significant centre of learning for many centuries, & its extraordinary library was the inspiration for the acclaimed novel The Name of the Rose. After visiting Melk, cruise through the beautiful, UNESCO-designated Wachau Valley to the village of Dürnstein, where you’ll stop for a warming cup of spiced wine & enjoy a delightful organ concert.
{tab Day 6}Vienna
Take a panoramic tour of Vienna’s must-see sites, stopping to view the city from the splendid Belvedere Palace. Afterwards, head to the Art History Museum to see the treasures on display in the Kunstkammer (“cabinet of curiosities”). Or, opt instead for a special walking discovery tour that features chic boutiques, tantalizing shop window displays & samples of decadent Viennese confections. This evening, you’re in for another treat—a Mozart & Strauss concert inside a private Viennese palace.
Note: The Art History Museum is closed on Mondays. If the tour lands on a Monday, Albertina Museum will be visited instead.
{tab Day 7}
Vienna
Choose your own adventure—view the world’s largest collection of Gustav Klimt paintings at Belvedere Palace, or take a city tour of Vienna & see the principal staterooms inside Prince Eugene’s magnificent Winter Palace.
{tab Day 8}
Bratislava
Your walking discovery tour of the capital of Slovakia will reveal a fascinating mosaic of different cultures & architectural styles, such as the castle where the Habsburgs once ruled, the rococo-style Mirbach Palace & the 18th-century Primatial Palace. You’ll also have ample time to explore Bratislava’s picturesque downtown area on your own.
{tab Day 9}
Budapest
Discover Budapest’s top sights on a panoramic city tour that includes the famous 19th-century Chain Bridge, the UNESCO-designated Castle Hill district & St. Stephen’s Basilica. Alternatively, you can opt to tour the remarkable Hungarian State Opera House. This evening, ring in the New Year with what is sure to be a highlight of your trip—a gala dinner & dance in an elegant ballroom.
{tab Day 10}
Budapest
Start the New Year off with a sumptuous brunch on-board. Head ashore to spend the day in the village of Szentendre, a haven for artists & artisans (who will open their shops today for Uniworld guests).
