Serangan (Bali) - Nusa Lembongan
Welcome to Bali, Indonesia’s best known & popular island, the starting point for your 7 day sailing adventure. At 1pm today you’ll meet your skipper & fellow travellers. As you’ll be travelling on a real sailing catamaran space on-board is limited it's recommended to bring a small soft-sided bag or a backpack. If you are travelling with a larger bag or suitcase & have booked pre tour accommodation you can ask to leave your luggage at the hotel & take a small overnight or daypack on-board. After an orientation of the yacht & collection of your important insurance & next of kin information, we begin our journey across the Strait of Lombok.
Our first mooring will be off Nusa Lembongan. The island is surrounded by coral reefs & it’s a perfect spot for a snorkel, a walk along the fine white sandy beach before enjoying a stunning sunset.
{tab Day 2 - Day 6}
Gili Islands (Lombok)
Today we head north & over the next couple of days we will visit what many refer to as ‘The Gili Islands’; the islands of Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno & Gili Air. The name "Gili Islands" is a contradiction, because Gili in the local Sasak language means "small island" & in fact there are a total of 26 Gili islands. Gili Trawangan became popular in the 80’s as an escape from the touristy Bali. Even though it is now popular with backpackers & restaurants, café & resorts the islands still keep there off the beaten track feel as all motorised vehicles are prohibited & the main form of transport is by bicycle, foot or cidomo, a horse drawn carriage.
Gili Meno & Gili Air are even more laidback than their bigger neighbour. Gili Meno is the smallest & quietest of the islands & with a population under 1,000 it’s not hard to imagine that you’ve been dropped on a deserted island. Gili Air the closest to the mainland (Lombok), is somewhere in between. Both islands offer excellent snorkelling opportunities & green, loggerhead & hawksbill turtles can be seen along the reefs & waters surrounding the islands. In fact the islanders have made a concerted effort to ensure there are conservation areas & turtle sanctuaries that turtle numbers have been increasing year on year.
After visiting the northern Gili islands we head south to Gili Sudak & Gili Tangkong. If the northern Gili islands give the feeling of being off the tourist track then the islands of Sudak & Tangkong will give you a true Robinson Crusoe experience. Pure white sand beaches, sea waters swarming with marine life. Snorkelling here opens up a whole underwater world.
Sadly our sailing adventure is coming to a close so it’s time to set sail towards Bali but before we do we have a couple of stops to make, Nusa Ceningan’s Blue Lagoon & Nusa Penida’s natural infinity pool, the Angel’s Billabong. Both natural phenomenon’s, the turquoise waters of the Blue Lagoon sparkle in the sunshine & the crystal clear to stunning green waters of the Angel’s Billabong is the perfect place for one last dip in this beautiful part of the world.
