You are met at the airport & transferred to your tour hotel where there is time to settle in & relax. Later, join your Insight Representative for a Welcome Reception, & an opportunity to get to know each other over a delightful evening of dinner & wine.

The Parthenon, Mycenae & Nafplio
This morning’s sightseeing tour reveals the Temple of Zeus, the Temple of the Wingless Victory & Hadrian’s Arch. A highlight is the visit to the Parthenon, built atop the Acropolis. Now follow the shores of the Saronic Gulf to the Corinth Canal, dividing the Peloponnese from mainland Greece. Next is the ruined city of Mycenae, featured in epics of Homer. Walk through the Lion Gate, visit the royal ‘beehive’ tombs & see the giant Cyclopean stones used to build the city walls. Continue to the elegant seaside town of Nafplio.

Through the Mountains of Arkadia to Olympia
After breakfast this morning, travel into the heart of Argolis to visit the Sanctuary of Asclepios at Epidaurus with its superb 4th century BC theatre. Visit the Museum & the Asklepeion. Later, meet the artisans & view beautiful works of art at a family-run pottery studio. Then a delightful drive takes you through the mountains of Arkadia to Olympia, birthplace of the Olympic Games. This evening, join a master chef for an entertaining cookery demonstration. Afterwards, these authentic flavours of Greece are yours to taste at dinner.
{tab Day 4}To Delphi, Centre of the Ancient World
In Olympia this morning, see the Olympic Stadium where the original games were first held in 776BC, plus the athletes’ gymnasium & the city’s ancient temples. Then head north to Patras & cross the soaring Rio-Antirrio Bridge to the mainland. Follow the coast road before climbing into the foothills of Mount Parnassus & on to your hotel.

The Sacred Way & Kalambaka
Ascend the Sacred Way of Delphi, past the Parian marble Treasury of the Athenians & Polygonal Wall, its interlocking stones still perfectly intact after thousands of years. Now approach the Temple of Apollo, where for 14 centuries the mysterious Oracle of Delphi breathed her enigmatic ‘words’. Continue north, stopping at Thermopylae to see the memorial to Leonidas & his courageous Spartans. Then on to your hotel in Kalambaka. At your hotel this evening, enjoy a hearty Celebration Dinner in true Greek style, complete with wine & good cheer.

Scenic drive to the Monasteries of Metéora & to Athens
After breakfast, visit one of the amazing monasteries of Metéora, which means 'in the air'. Incredibly perched on top of pinnacles of rock, see where ancient Christians worshipped & enjoy stunning views over the Peneios Valley. Afterwards, enjoy a scenic drive along the coast back to Athens.
