{tab Day 1}
Hanoi to Sapa, Vietnam
Ease into your Sapa round trip with a visit to the Museum of Ethnology in Hanoi. Boasting a dedicated display to Vietnam's 54 ethnic minorities & rumoured to be the best museum in the country, you've got a lot to learn in one afternoon.
Grab an early dinner before we high-tail it by train to Lao Cai, an unassuming town on the Vietnam-China border. We'll overnight in comfortable sleeper berths en route.
Included today: Overnight train to Sapa through rural Vietnam & Museum of Etymology
Meals: Dinner.
{tab Day 2}Sapa
Wake up in a different city before we make our way to the small Giay village of Ta Van in the Muong Hoa Valley. Today we traverse across the gaping mouth-worthy rice paddies & on towards the Black H'mong village of Lao Chai (not related to Chai, btw). With rice terraces blanketing the mountain like coiffed faux grass, now's your chance to snap every angle & get your Insta fix before we arrive at the home of a local Black H'mong lady by the name of Ms Moo.
Soak in the views while hearing stories about the life & culture of the Black H'mong people, then work out those foot kinks with a traditional H'mong herbal foot bath. Next up, opt to join a master class led by a local expert to learn the dying art of Batik painting. The best part - you get to bring your creation home whilst taking part in a sustainable tourism project supporting local women & ensuring the art form is passed on to the next generation. Tonight we get to stay at Ms Moo's as homestay guests.
Included today: Muong Hoa valley & ethnic villages, Local homestay & Batik painting master class
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner.
{tab Day 3}Sapa
This morning you're onwards & upwards to the peaceful valleys & gorges surrounding the village of O Quy Ho, north of Sapa. Indochina's highest peak, Fangxipan Mountain towers over the valleys as a welcome reprieve from the blistering sun, providing pano-worthy shots on clear days. Breathe in the oolong tea scent as you trek past tea farms.
Look down (& snap away) as you walk along the footpaths that contour around the rice terraces, passing grazing buffalo, & hear the century-old migration stories of the Black H'mong (could this be any more magical?).
This afternoon visit a local family's Black H'mong house (mind your manners), then it's back to Sapa to board an overnight train.
Included today: O Quy Ho village
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner.
{tab Day 4}Sapa to Hanoi
Arrive back in Hanoi for one last pho & rice paper roll.
